Evergreen Celebrates VPP 'Star' Award

On December 16, 2008, Evergreen Industrial Services held a celebration at the Valero Houston refinery for becoming an OSHA VPP "Star" site. Kevin Rockwell OSHA's VPP Coordinator for the Houston South Region presented the VPP Star Plaque and Flag to Evergreen. William "Buddy" Tucker, Evergreen's corporate safety VPP director and member of the board of directors for VPP Region VI, led the celebration.

"Most of all, I would like to recognize our site-based employees — the ones that go out in the field and perform the needed duties to keep the refinery running efficiently," he said. Evergreen Industrial Services has been a contractor in the Valero Houston Refinery site since August 2000. Working toward VPP "Star" certification is a long process, taking a minimum of 12 months up to many years.

"This is something we have wanted for some time now," said Jon Hodges, owner and founder of Evergreen. "It's a statement of our commitment to safety excellence while delivering quality service."
