HBR Presents Gold Safety Award to Evergreen

The Houston Business Roundtable's Safety, Health & Environmental Resource Committee sponsored the 22nd Annual Safety Excellence Awards Dinner honoring contractors in the Houston/Gulf Coast area that achieved an outstanding record of safety performance during 2008. HBR honored all nominees, 2009 Mentors, Bronze, Silver, Gold winners and all audit team members with a new exciting format that included videos. The HBR safety awards banquet was held at Galveston Island Convention Center at the San Luis Resort. There was a huge turnout that included the 72 contractor companies nominated. Evergreen representatives that attended the banquet were Nina Parker, Don Wright, Bill Shaw and his wife Susie.

To prepare for the application submission, Evergreen employees danced in the hall, participated in a lengthy audit at our Texas City branch office, prepared binders that included reams of extensive safety documentation and a visit to our corporate office. It was a month-long process that began when Sterling Chemicals and BP in Texas City nominated our company, because of our excellent safety record. Between the two sites, Evergreen provides hazardous waste transportation, hydroblasting, chemical cleaning, tank cleaning, pond dredging, emergency spill response, and vacuum services. Evergreen was presented with “Gold” for first time. We were recognized for these best practices:

• Safety Auction

Bill Shaw, VP HSE for Evergreen, commented on the award, “We should have received “Best in Class” Award. A percentage point kept us from getting the highest award. Each Evergreen employee on Preston Burrell's crew who participated in the process worked hard and presented well. Receiving the “Gold” award is really good. The “Best in Class” is our goal for next year.”

Evergreen has been honored previously in 2005, 2006, and 2007 by HBR for superior safety performance.
