Southwest Louisiana Bestows Safety Awards

The Southwest Louisiana Safety Awards luncheon was held at Treasures of Marilyn's in Sulphur, Louisiana. Nina Parker, Scott Pousson, and Gerald Papilion attended as representatives for Evergreen Industrial Services. Evergreen has offices in both Texas and Louisiana.

James Szydlo of LAIA cited the delay in making the presentations for the previous two years were due to hurricanes in the Gulf Coast area and the nationwide economic crisis. Evergreen was the recipient of a SLCUC Contractors Safety Performance award in the Specialty Contractor Level II category for working 100,000 to 500,000 manhours. Evergreen received two safety awards:

• Silver Award - 2007
• Bronze Award - 2008

The requirements for being nominated for an award included a recommendation letter from a customer who is a member of the Southwest Louisiana Construction Users Council (SLCUC) or the Lake Are Industrial Alliance (LAIA) and submission of OSHA log for the Louisiana area.

According to Nina Parker, Safety Administrator for Evergreen, Rob Smith of Entergy wrote a letter of recommendation for Evergreen and along with our application, safety policy binder, and OSHA log, we were happy to finally receive the notification of an award.

Bill Shaw, VP of HSE for Evergreen explained that to qualify for the award a company must have no recordable injuries, a certain number of manhours and work in the Southwest Louisiana region. He said of the award, “Having a perfect safety record in that region reflects a safety culture that extends into Louisiana”.

Evergreen qualified for the awards while working at Citgo in Lake Charles, Westlake, Entergy in Bridge City, and WR Grace. Evergreen provided hurricane restoration, hydroblasting, tank cleaning and vacuum services to those companies.
