Barge Degassing to Eliminate Hazardous Contents
Marine Loading Vapor Control
Marine Logistics Company - Southern California - Northern California
A national marine logistics company transports gasoline from a Southern California-based refinery to a Northern California terminal in a 100,000 barrel barge. For compliance and safety reasons, the logistics company wanted the barge stripped of previous product and degassed per South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) standards of <5,000 ppm VOC’s. For added safety, the compartments were inerted with carbon monoxide prior to degassing event.
With extensive experience in marine services, Evergreen's GEM division mobilized a 20MM BTU MVC dockside and began degassing. The barge contained twelve compartments, with six requiring degassing. We degassed each compartment within two hours, reducing the vapor content below the regulatory threshold.
Because of our high capacity thermal unit, the project was completed ahead of schedule. The marine logistics company was able to set sail early and eliminate costly dock fees and demurrage. The compartment degassing allowed for safe travel.
